El seleccionado nacional que representará al país en el Festival de Minibaloncesto que se celebrará en Guayaquil, Ecuador, partió esta mañana desde el Aeropuerto Internacional de las Américas.
El equipo, patrocinado por el Seguro Nacional de Salud (SENASA), está conformado por diez jugadores de la categoría de 12 años y tiene como entrenador a Félix Sosa.
La comitiva está encabezada por Rafael Uribe, presidente de la Comisión de Fibaamérica para la región del Caribe, quien destacó las condiciones del equipo criollo.
El jefe de la delegación dominicana es Saturnino Martínez, quien pertenece a la directiva de la Comisión de Fibaamérica para la Región del Caribe, y la integran además José Esteban Borromé, director administrativo, y Ronny Jaquez. Con el grupo viaja además una comitiva de padres de los niños encabezados por Belardi Peña y su esposa.
Los integrantes del combinado dominicano son: Roosevelt Lebrón, Delmi Alexander, Miguel Castillo, Gerardo Calderón, Carlos Fernández, Jordan Vicmar, Arturo Soto, Gerson Matos, Yodreily Ortiz y Juan Castro. “Contamos con un equipo en que se conjugan la altura y la velocidad, con buen manejo del balón”, opinó Uribe.
Más de 10 países verán acción en el festival que corresponde a una iniciativa del alcalde de Guayaquil, organizador del evento.
Entre los países participantes figuran Brasil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panamá, Guatemala, Costa Rica, México, República Dominicana y los anfitriones de Ecuador.
Las principales autoridades de Fibaamérica, entre ellas su presidente, Horacio Moratore y a Alberto García, secretario general, estarán presentes en el certamen que se extiende hasta el lunes 25 del presente mes.
Durante el Festival se desarrollará en forma paralela un congresillo donde se elaborará un reglamento internacional de mini baloncesto.
